WUIS Bedrock 66 Live!

Ike Reilly On World Cafe

Aug 11, 2015

Ike Reilly returns to World Cafe with songs from his seventh album, Born On Fire. A cocky, charming rock 'n' roll singer from the Chicago area, Reilly shares a hometown with the late comedian Chris Farley, whose new biopic features a song from Reilly's new album.

In this episode of World Cafe, Reilly tells the story of the hard-drive crash that ate the first recordings of his new album — plus, of course, he and his band The Ike Reilly Assassination perform live.

Nora Jane Struthers may never have become a singer-songwriter if her identity hadn't been stolen. Rebuilding her life allowed her to take a risk and do something she'd wanted to for years. It paid off: She has a new album out titled Wake.

Her story begins at a charter school in Brooklyn where Struthers worked as an English teacher.

"I started teaching sophomores and moved to teaching seniors in my last year," Struthers says. "I loved it."

Red Molly On Mountain Stage

Red Molly makes its second appearance on Mountain Stage, recorded live on the grounds of West Virginia's State Capitol. Built around the buoyant three-part harmonies of Laurie MacAllister, Abbie Gardner and Molly Venter, Red Molly has won over audiences and critics with solid songwriting and a relentless touring schedule. Its music has spent weeks atop folk and Americana radio charts; Red Molly's latest, The Red Album, was no exception.
