State Fire Marshal: No Illegal Fireworks This Fourth

  Illinois' state fire marshal is warning people to steer clear of personally handling fireworks this Independence Day. He says setting off fireworks without a permit could be grounds for arrest.

While buying fireworks is illegal in Illinois, many residents cross state lines to obtain them from Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri. Illinois State Fire Marshal Larry Matkaitis says that causes major problems, especially around the Fourth of July.

New Law Aimed At Used Tire Sites

Gov. Pat Quinn has signed new legislation meant to improve oversight of used-tire storage and processing sites that can pose major environmental hazards.  

Thursday's signing comes one year after a massive fire broke out at a tire-recycling facility in central Illinois.  
The June fire at J&R Used Tire Service in Hoopeston engulfed tens of thousands of tires and took weeks to extinguish. Many homes in neighboring communities had to be evacuated. The cleanup also took several weeks.

On this week's business report, we get an update on high speed rail work.   $1.45 billion in contracts awarded now in Illinois; mostly for rail upgrades but still a lot of work to get to 110 mph trains on two-thirds of St. Louis-Chicago route in late 2015.
Also, the Outlets at Springfield; A Pennsylvania developer David Ober says construction in Legacy Pointe,just south of Scheels will begin as soon as planners approve the large-scale design.  It could open next year and promises more than 80 stores and 800 to 900 jobs.
