Security Review After Lincoln Home Break-In

Workers at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in
Springfield are reviewing security procedures after a man broke in to the
basement.
 
The (Springfield) State Journal-Register reports (http://bit.ly/1dIqzN9 ) a man
from Marshall in southeastern Illinois pleaded guilty to trespassing and
criminal property damage after being found in the basement earlier this month.
 
Jordan Clark was sentenced to time served and ordered to pay $3,000 in
restitution.

Millikin Choir Weekend Concert In Springfield

The Millikin University Choir makes another appearance in Springfield this weekend.   The concert will take place Sunday January 19 at the Central Baptist Church at 501 S. Fourth Street. 

Under the direction of Dr. Brad Holmes, the nationally recognized choir travels across the country and has performed abroad. 

But central Illinois is home base.

Lincoln Home Would Be Closed By Federal Shutdown

The Lincoln Home in Springfield would be closed if the federal government shuts down Monday night. The majority of National Park Service employees have been deemed non-essential, meaning they’d be sent home without pay.

The historic home of Abraham Lincoln in Springfield would be among the victims of a federal shutdown Monday night.

During a shutdown, the federal government makes all kinds of decisions about what's considered an essential government function.

Air traffic control and National Weather Service forecasts are essential. National parks are not. Which is why the Lincoln Home National Historic Site is on the block.

Lecture To Focus On Jameson Jenkins' Home In Lincoln Neighborhood

Jameson Jenkins was Abraham Lincoln's neighbor.  The site of his former home is located in the Lincoln Neighborhood.   While Jenkins is far less well-known than the future president who lived a few doors away, he is nonetheless an interesting figure in history.
