Born and raised in Rockford, IL. 

BA in political science from Knox College, Galesburg, IL;  and graduate work in political science at Tulane University, New Orleans, LA (received an MA and completed all doctoral work except the dissertation).

Instructor in political science at Knox College, Galesburg, IL (1979-81) and at Illinois College, Jacksonville, IL (1981-84).

Directed the Survey Research Office at University of Illinois Springfield (formerly Sangamon State University) from 1984 until retirement in 2012.

Currently doing volunteer work at the National Park Service’s Lincoln Home Site as a docent and at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum.

Karen Witter is an independent museum consultant, working with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, and external affairs advisor to the Prairie Research Institute at UIUC. She retired from the State of Illinois after 35 years in senior management positions working on natural resource issues including 14 years as Associate Director of the Illinois State Museum.

Blake E. Roderick is the Executive Director of the Pike and Scott County Farm Bureaus and Two Rivers Farm Bureau Foundation. He earned a B.S. in Agricultural Economics from Texas A&M University.

He is a director of the Mid-America Intermodal Port Authority District on the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. He is on the Board of Directors of the National Waterways Conference. He serves on the 25x’25 Illinois Renewable Energy Alliance. He also is a member of the Illinois Comptroller’s Rural Affairs Advisory Council as well as other advisory groups.
