This is the WUIS Christmas Archives... for Friday... December 6th.  I'm Rich Bradley.

It's December 6, 1982... a Monday...  and in the Illinois Times for the week of December 2nd through the 7th:   White Oaks Mall was remembering Christmases past... as shoppers visit Springfield as it might have been in the mid-1800's... in “A Dickens of a Christmas.” 

Santa is busy this week: at Fairhills Mall kids can get their picture taken with him.  And he'll swing by the YWCA for snacks and special lunch.

This is the WUIS Christmas Archives... for Thursday... December 5th.  I'm Rich Bradley.

From the Illinois State Register... in 1975... Colder weather is forecast... with a possibility of flurries in the evening.   The "Friend-In-Deed" fund is getting a good start... thanks to the owners of the local Mexican restaurant... Taco Gringo.

Christmas Archives for December 4, 2013

This is the WUIS Christmas Archives for Wednesday... December 4th.  I'm Rich Bradley.

In 1962... December 4th was a Tuesday.   The Illinois State Register noted there are just 17 shopping days left before Christmas... and that so far... it does not look like it'll be a white Christmas.  Springfield is experiencing erratic weather... and many residents report flowers in bloom!  And the Springfield post office appeals for the community to shop and mail early.

Christmas Archives for December 3, 2013

This is the WUIS Christmas Archives... for Tuesday... December 3rd.  I'm Rich Bradley.

In 1972... December 3rd was a Friday and the Illinois State Register featured a front page photo... of a small boy depositing his letter to Santa... in a special mailbox identified as being for "North Pole Letters ONLY."

Three-year-old Karen Mosley was selected as Auburn's princess Snowflake, along with Prince Tiny Tim portrayed by Robert McCarthy, also age 3.  The couple will adorn the town's Christmas parade the next afternoon

In 1972... December 2nd was a Saturday.  In the Illinois State Register... a story about a warning issued by Illinois Attorney General William J. Scott.   He warns consumers to be wary of ordering Christmas gifts from unknown companies advertising in catalogs.

This is the WUIS Christmas Archives for Friday... November 29th.  I'm Rich Bradley.  And in 1967... November 29th was the day before Thanksgiving... and in the Illinois State Register... we learn that plans were being finalized for the Taylorville Yule Parade.

... Christmas dinners and dances were being planned all over Springfield... at The State House Inn... the Washington Park Pavilion... and The Lake Club... among others.

This is the WUIS Christmas Archives for Sunday... December 1st.  I'm Rich Bradley. 

In 1960... on the first of December... a Thursday.  The Illinois State Register reports there are 20 shopping days until Christmas.  The Register also reports the first annual Springfield Home Christmas Lighting Contest will be held... with the judging to begin at 5 pm on December 19th.  Prizes of a $25 U-S Savings Bond will be awarded in 4 regions of the city:  The NW... NE... SW... and SE.

Christmas Archives for November 30, 2013

This is the WUIS Christmas Archives for Saturday... November 30th.  I'm Rich Bradley. 

And in 1965... November 30 fell on a Tuesday.  And in the Illinois State Register...  you could learn that          12 year old Linda Reid of Glenview will get an early Christmas present when President Johnson's daughter... Luci... plays Santa.   She is sending Linda one of her pet hamsters.  The gift arrives at O'Hare International Airport.  Linda... who wants to be a veterinarian... will name the hamster Frisky.

UIS Smoking Policy Under Scrutiny

Should the University of Illinois Springfield become smoke free?   The campus allows smoking outdoors, away from entryways.  But some want to see lighting up banned completely.

A task force has been talking with those who live and work on the campus, as well as those who visit.

Illinois Loses Office Depot, Is ADM Next?

  A newly merged Office Depot chose to locate its headquarters in Florida, instead of Illinois. A Republican candidate for governor says Illinois needs to hurry if it doesn't want a similar fate with Archer Daniels Midland.

Archer Daniels Midland is based in Decatur now, and no matter what plans to keep many of its operations there. But it's searching for a new worldwide headquarters.

Chicago's in the running, but so are major cities.
