Nashville alternative country crooner Paul Burch is joined by former Government Cheese lead singer Tommy Womack in the last show of the 2009 season of Bedrock 66.
Burch, a long-time resident of Nashville, brings with him a variety of sounds. Dabbling in honky-tonk, swing, and classic country ballads, Burch has been praised by critics for making old country sounds fresh and new again. His use of a few nontraditional instruments on his albums certainly aid in the cultivation of this sound. Pick up a Paul Burch album and you may hear saxophones, wurlitzers, plus a plethora of guitars.
Finding his roots in the post-punk movement of the late 80s/early 90s, Womack made his name as lead singer and lead guitarist of the band, Government Cheese. Now, after being a solo artist for over 10 years, Womack has more than 10 albums under his belt, and a couple books as well. Playing a mean guitar and writing distinctive melodies sets Womack apart from the crowd. For many of his songs he draws from his own personal experiences, making those songs small autobiographical narratives about the struggle to be a family man and trying to survive being a musician in his 50s.
